A pupil of legendary Russian cellist Natalia Gutman at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. Nieto began his musical journey through El Sistema and was mentored by its founder, Dr. José Antonio Abreu.
Venezuelan cellist Gregorio Nieto has established an international career as a soloist and recording artist. His latest album, Opus 33 – Romantic Cello, was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra. Among his recent projects, Nieto appears as cello soloist on Sir Anthony Hopkins’ album Life Is a Dream, recorded with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel.
